Duration: Week 11 – Week 12
Deadline: Week 13

Description:
With the knowledge and experience gained in the Exercises, Task 1 and Task 2, Task 3A, synthesise and apply the learning in the following tasks:
Your first task is to express typographically a social message/greeting relevant to the campus community at Taylor’s University or society at large.
1. Set your art board size to 512 x 512 px (Adobe Illustrator)
2. Choose an appropriate typeface from the 10 given
3. Use Black & White only until design is confirmed/approved
4. Save artwork as PDF & PNG, upload/embed onto e-portfolio.
You may use minor graphical elements or visuals to aid in your message and design. You may use the appropriate colour schemes after getting the black and white version approved. Ensure that the expression occupies the space and is legible and readable for its intended use.
Upon completion of the designed sticker, selected stickers will be used for social platforms Telegram/WhatsApp.
Design an attractive, functional, and visually impactful sticker. You may use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for the task.

The first step is to choose a festival among the list given, and I decided to pick "Happy Father's Day", since Father's day is just around the corner.

Next, I did some research on the festival, to get some ideas and look at the different elements that could represent father's day.

Then, I sketched out some of my ideas-

After that, I started digitising my black and white Father's Day sticker on Illustrator. I went with the font Gill Sans Std Bold Condensed.

I thought of using "commas" for the moustache could be a good idea, it turned out quite realistic too.

Below are my first attempts-

After receiving feedbacks from class, I made amendments to my work. Trying to reduce the use of graphical elements, focusing on the type element instead, tightening the composition, and making it look more "happy".
For this attempt, as I was attempting to reduce graphical elements, instead of putting a graphical "hat", I tried using a "c" + "|". In order to make the sticker give a more "cheerful" vibe, I decided to try an even bolder version of the font, so I went with Gill Sans Std Ultra Bold Condensed.

After several adjustments to the composition and type expressions, I'm quite happy with the final design I have, and so, I started searching for some good colour schemes in colours.

After getting feedbacks from the lecturers, I decided to go with option 2. I added some highlights to the letters and made some amendments to the design.

The final step import the sticker into telegram sticker bot and try out the sticker.

FEEDBACK

Week 11

Reliance on graphical elements, must minimise the use of graphical elements. Main visual element should be the type element which takes on the centre of attention. Try to express the festival through type expression more than graphical elements.

Make the type more "happy and cheerful", fitting the the theme or celebration of "Happy Father's Day".
Try to embed the taylors logo somewhere else, but do not make it the centre of attention, preferably not as the "T" of the word "FATHER'S", since it is the main highlight of the text. The moustache made using the commas is a good idea, but maybe can play around with the position.

Have movements to the stickers, as a square design would be a little boring. Adjust composition, tighten the composition, and fill up the space available.

Week 12

Try to coordinate the colour of the dots with the background colour.

Cover the "hole" in the middle of the hat, and add highlights to the hat.

Add highlights to the letters, don't need to highlight the entire thing, just small highlights on individual letters will do.

Lastly, add a 7pt white outline around the sticker.

REFLECTION

Experience
Creating a sticker is a whole new experience. Working at a small scale and trying to express the festival well, using mainly typographic elements and limited graphical elements. It was also fun working with the different colour combinations, trying to figure the best colour scheme that fits the festive and yet stood out from the common colour combinations.

Observation
There are a lot to consider even when working at such a small scale. For example, we must take into consideration the composition, readability, and design. As the final result will turn out small, we need to ensure that the sticker would still stand out, and elements would still be visible at a small size.

Findings
It requires a great amount of work and effort to create a tiny sticker, but I'm satisfied as the final result was beyond my expectations.
